"Borat" (2006)
Borat faced multiple controversial lawsuits since its release. In fact, the film was banned in Kazakhstan and the country's government threatened to sue Sacha Baron Cohen. However, most of those outraged by the film did end up taking the case to court: 1. The inhabitants of Glod, Romania, sued the film, claiming that it made them look incestuous. 2. The driving instructor, Michael Psenicska, sued for the use of his image in promotional material. 3. The man who runs away from Borat in New York sued for "public ridicule... and humiliation". 4. Two of the fraternity brothers sued for defamation. 5. Singer Esma Redžepova sued for the use of her song, although the filmmakers had received permission. Interestingly, this was the only lawsuit she "won", as the artist had not been notified by her production company of the use of her song. She was awarded 26,000 euros, although she had initially claimed 800,000.
